In the end, the earth was to be restored to a Paradise-like state like Adam and Eve had originally experienced. Because he had lived a perfect human life, Jesus' execution paid the price that Adam could not pay, even though he died. Adam had willfully given up his perfection when he sinned, and thus he and all his sons and daughters have lost the ability to live forever on earth. This ability could be restored only by the legal payment of a ransom, an amount which covered the full value of the perfect life which Adam squandered. When the authorities killed Jesus, God allowed Jesus to take the place of Adam, and thus his death paid for the sin of Adam, and since Jesus was perfect, it was paid in full. Payment was made after God resurrected Jesus and Jesus entered into heaven.
