USEFUL WEB SOFTWARE TOOLS
Featured Publication Every toolkit has some basic requirements, but the value of a tool isn't always appreciated-- until a definite need arises.   Here are some ideas for a toolkit useful to general web pedestrians.   All of these examples apply to a hardware configuration capable of running Windows 3.1 or later.   Audio applications require a compatible sound card.   Internet software tools are often available free of charge.
A dialer is an essential phone connection software tool, enabling standard phone lines to connect to the Web.   A browser is a basic tool that enables you to view websites: Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator are the two most widespread examples of browsers, although there are others.   In addition to the basic browser, a multimedia viewer such as RealPlayer enables streaming video and/or sound to be played over the Web.
Adobe Acrobat Reader is a utility for reading *.pdf files, a portable document format.   You may want a utility to 'unzip' files which have been downloaded over the Net.   If you do a lot of downloading of program files, you may have a need for one of these: PKUNZIP and WINZIP are commonly used for this purpose.   If you have a web page with a remote ISP, you may need a program like WS_FTP for uploading files to the server.
