Exodus 20
1God appointed all of the following commands for consideration:

2``I am Jehovah your God who brought you out of Egypt, from the house of slaves.

3``You may not see other gods for yourselves as above me.

4``You may not make carved images having any likeness to things in the heavens above, to things on earth below, or to things in the waters of the earth.

5``You may not bow in their worship, nor may you serve them, because I am Jehovah your God, of all other gods jealous, recounting the sins of fathers to their sons, to the third generation, to the fourth generation for those hating me, 6but doing kindness to the 1000th generation for those who have affection for me and who keep my commandments.

7``You may not magnify the honour of Jehovah your God for evil, because Jehovah does not cleanse the one who magnifies his name for evil.

8``Note well the Sabbath day for cleansing. 9You are to work six days. Be busy, then, in all your ministry, 10but the seventh day is the Sabbath for Jehovah your God, so no one may carry on working, not you, not your son, not your daughter, not your servant nor maid, not your domestic animal, nor any resident alien of your city, 11because Jehovah made the heavens and the earth and sea and everything in six days. Now as he rested on the seventh day, so a day of rest is appropriate. It is blessed by Jehovah, for it was prepared by him.

12``Glorify your father and mother, so as to lengthen your earthly life which Jehovah your God has given you.

13``You may not murder.

14``You may not commit adultery.

15``You may not steal or use stealth.

16``You may not bear witness to your brother in falsehood.

17``You may not delight in the house of your associate, nor delight in your associate's wife nor servant nor maid nor bull nor ass nor anything that belongs to your associate.''

18Now all the people were witnessing thunder and lightning and the sound of a trumpet and smoke from the mountain. They were witnessing it and shaking as they stood a good distance away.

19The people now said to Moses: ``You, speak to us. We are listening. May God not speak to us so that we do not die.''

20Moses said to the people: ``May you not be afraid that God comes in order to tempt you, but rather, it is in order that you may come to revere the fear for you to be without sin!''

21So the people stood at a good distance and Moses came near to the dark cloud and so to the true God.

22Jehovah spoke to Moses like this: ``Say to the sons of Israel: You saw how I spoke out of the heavens. 23You may not bring gods of silver near nor gods of gold, as you may not make them.

24``An altar of earth you shall make for me, for sacrificing your sheep and cattle, your burnt offerings as well as your peace offerings. Wherever you make memorial to my name I come to you and bless you.

25``Now, if you build me an altar of stones, you may not build it with cut stones, for your tool defiles it by striking it.

26``You may not go up upon my altar by steps of great height, so that your nudity may not be exposed for shame.''

Exodus 20 5
Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them, for I Jehovah thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, upon the third and upon the fourth generation of them that hate me,
Exodus 20 6
and showing lovingkindness unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.
Exodus 20 7
Thou shalt not take the name of Jehovah thy God in vain; for Jehovah will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
Exodus 20 8

Exodus 20 11
for in six days Jehovah made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore Jehovah blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Honor thy father and thy mother, that thy days may be long in the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee.

Exodus 20 18
And all the people perceived the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the voice of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they trembled, and stood afar off.
Exodus 20 19
And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die.
Exodus 20 20
And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before you, that ye sin not.
Exodus 20 21
And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.
Exodus 20 22
And Jehovah said unto Moses, Thus thou shalt say unto the children of Israel, Ye yourselves have seen that I have talked with you from heaven.
Exodus 20 23
Ye shall not make [other gods] with me; gods of silver, or gods of gold, ye shall not make unto you.
Exodus 20 24
An altar of earth thou shalt make unto me, and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt-offerings, and thy peace-offerings, thy sheep, and thine oxen: in every place where I record my name I will come unto thee and I will bless thee.
Exodus 20 25
And if thou make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stones; for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it.
Exodus 20 26
Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not uncovered thereon.
