Draft Version Proverbs 18 1To keep to oneself is to seek one's desire 1To seek after all that good sense does require 2A fool has delight not in reasoning skill 2But just that his heart may reveal itself still 3When bad ones arrive then contempt will come in 3And taunting accompanies shame for a sin 4The mouth of a man is of deep words a well 4The fountain of wisdom a torrent does tell 5To further a wicked man's case it's not fine 5The right of good men just as bad to decline 6The lips of a fool may well join in the fray 6His mouth does invite even strokes as they say 7The mouth of a fool his destruction will bring 7His lips are a snare for his soul lively thing 8The wounds of a liar as words or as treats 8Will rob of the belly its innermost meats 9The lazy one slackens his work and for all 9Akin is to one who corrupts for a fall 10The name of Jehovah Almighty does tower 10The righteous runs to it for safety and power 11The wealthy man's riches are built like a town 11The wall he imagines will never come down 12When facing destruction a man's heart is high 12And humble he is when a glory is nigh 13One turning back words without hearing the same 13To him it is silliness folly and shame 14A man's very breathing can feed his disease 14But spirit when stricken now who can appease 15The heart of the wise man creates his own wit 15The ear of the wise yearns to seek unto it 16The gift of a man makes his prospects grow wide 16His gift with the presence of greatness will guide 17The one who is first in his case may be true 17His neighbour arrives to examine what's due 18The lot causes even contesting to cease 18And puts between mighty and mighty a crease 19A brother offended is set as a wall 19Contentions like bars of a castle are tall 20The fruit of one's mouth his own belly does fill 20His crop is increased by his lips of goodwill 21O ruin and life are the tongue's earnest fire 21Whose fruit shall be eaten by them that desire 22One finding a wife finds a good one for sure 22And so by Jehovah does favour secure 23The poor speak entreaties and pray for relief 23The rich respond roughly with fervent belief 24Companions may lead one to death in the end 24Enduring love lasts and that's what makes a friend © 2004 Ward Green. Proverbs 18 1 He that separateth himself seeketh [his own] desire, And rageth against all sound wisdom. Proverbs 18 2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, But only that his heart may reveal itself. Proverbs 18 3 When the wicked cometh, there cometh also contempt, And with ignominy [cometh] reproach. Proverbs 18 4 The words of a man`s mouth are [as] deep waters; The wellspring of wisdom is [as] a flowing brook. Proverbs 18 5 To respect the person of the wicked is not good, [Nor] to turn aside the righteous in judgment. Proverbs 18 6 A fool`s lips enter into contention, And his mouth calleth for stripes. Proverbs 18 7 A fool`s mouth is his destruction, And his lips are the snare of his soul. Proverbs 18 8 The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, And they go down into the innermost parts. Proverbs 18 9 He also that is slack in his work Is brother to him that is a destroyer. Proverbs 18 10 The name of Jehovah is a strong tower; The righteous runneth into it, and is safe. Proverbs 18 11 The rich man`s wealth is his strong city, And as a high wall in his own imagination. Proverbs 18 12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty; And before honor [goeth] humility. Proverbs 18 13 He that giveth answer before he heareth, It is folly and shame unto him. Proverbs 18 14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; But a broken spirit who can bear? Proverbs 18 15 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; And the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge. Proverbs 18 16 A man`s gift maketh room for him, And bringeth him before great men. Proverbs 18 17 He that pleadeth his cause first [seemeth] just; But his neighbor cometh and searcheth him out. Proverbs 18 18 The lot causeth contentions to cease, And parteth between the mighty. Proverbs 18 19 A brother offended [is harder to be won] than a strong city; And [such] contentions are like the bars of a castle. Proverbs 18 20 A man`s belly shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth; With the increase of his lips shall he be satisfied. Proverbs 18 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue; And they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Proverbs 18 22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, And obtaineth favor of Jehovah. Proverbs 18 23 The poor useth entreaties; But the rich answereth roughly. Proverbs 18 24 He that maketh many friends [doeth it] to his own destruction; But there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. |
